Week 7 - Surprising news at the end of the week...

Monday- 26th  June 2023

Hello, world!!! I cant believe that I survived all those six weeks so far! *yeeting sound inserted*. While I am writing this celebratory entry, I am also reminded of what had happened earlier this day. Remember I told you about "Majlis Watikah Perlantikan Ketua Kelas dan Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya"  previously? Well, today is the day! Unlike last week's event, this ceremony was being separated with the morning session (Form 3 to 5). The kids wore their full formal attire and most of them look very pretty and handsome in those!  The ceremony took an hour and half, which can be considered very quick too. Aziah did great as the emcee (don't tell her I said that! 🥸), but too bad, my view was being blocked by the others so I couldn't record her doing her work.

Since my classes with 1 Intan and 1 Ruby were both on the last three periods, I still had to go to monitor  5 classes at the hall, all at once! Those classes were 1 Topez, 2 Nilam, 2 Delima, 1 Baiduri and 2 Intan. They were so noisy and I almost lost the control. All thanks to Cikgu Mukti (who passed by the hall) for scolding them. Aha!

Tuesday -  27th June 2023

Nothing much was happening to me on this day. I only had a class with 1 Ruby today, hence, I was assigned with a loooooottt of relief classes (That's predictable though but let's just pretend I am surprised). I had a listening test with 1 Ruby earlier today. The original plan was to use the Bilik Sanggar Digital, however, I definitely wouldn't want to go to the war only to get the keys. So, the shortcut was to borrow Cikgu Amal's radio speaker. She's sitting next to my cubicle and has been very helpful and caring so far. The lesson with 1 Ruby went well despite their stubbornness at keeping their mouths shut when the audio was playing. 😅  I am a bit flustered for not being able to snap at least one photo of them doing the activity as I was so rushed running back and forth, catching my relief classes!

PS:  I am so delighted to write this entry in my childhood bedroom. This is also going to be my last entry of the week. Happy Celebrating Eid Adha everyone ! 🐄

Week 6 - A very eventful week...

Starting my second month working as a teacher in SMK Seri Permaisuri with our weekly assembly. As usual, the teacher in-charge will invite the cleanest class from the last week to come to the stage and receive their trophy, followed by the speeches from several teachers.

Around 3 p.m. after I had my lunch at the staff room, I went to the hall for relief classes.  It was Ustazah Hidayati's class. She had left the kids with some homework beforehand and I was there to supervise them to make sure they'd return their workbook back to her table in the staff room.

The rest of the day was fine but I was extremely tired and exhausted from teaching I Ruby and 1 Intan. Prolly because I was having a Monday blues?

Tuesday - 20th June 2023

We had a visitor from the nearest police station today for a talk.  The talk was focusing on the 'Anti- Bullying' campaign, delivered by two policemen. It was mandatory for all the teachers and students to join. The talk took place during the first three periods, so basically, my two-period class with 1 Ruby was burnt ( and I am a bit tad happy with that 🤭). 

I gained a lot of new knowledge from the talk and it was very beneficial to educate the students about bullying, harassments and so on. I noticed the kids were taking jokes a bit too far sometimes, that's why this kind of talk is very much needed not only for the students but also the teachers too.

Wednesday - 21st June 2023

Now let me ask you a serious question.

Have you ever heard of Kadet JPJ Sekolah before? JPJ as in  Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan??!

Well, our school has it.  It was my first meeting with Kadet JPJ and I had to handle the meeting alone as the other three teachers were not available and had to attend other official meetings. I had to do a brief research on the club as I had to introduce them the song, the club's missions and visions, and other important stuff. The one hour meeting was so nerve-wrecking at first but luckily, it went well under my supervision.

Later in the evening, we had the rehearsal for the next day's Majlis Perlantikan Pengawas Sekolah.  All the prefects and librarians involved were asked to gather at the school hall and sit accordingly to what the teacher-in-charge instructed them to. I was in charge of giving the certificate to the Inspector (the VIP, whom is going to inaugurate the ceremony) on stage.

Thursday - 22nd June 2023

It's the D-Day!!

The ceremony took place around 2 hours which also means, the first four periods were dedicated for the event. All the students took their place behind the prefects and the librarians' line. It was so good to finally be able to see them in their complete school uniform. So neat!! 

After our GPKK delivered her speech,  followed by the speech from the Inspector, the emcees calls out the receivers name one by one. Unfortunately, I did not have many photos taken as I was busy handing the certs on stage. But a few will still do, isn't it?

In the evening, the UBK (Unit Bimbingan dan Kaunseling) organised a talk entitled, "Sayangi Diri -  Literasi Undang-Undang Jenayah Seksual Dalam Kalangan Remaja". The talk was basically to educate the students, boys and girls and even the teachers, about sexual crimes/assaults. The talk was delivered by two police women from Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah, IPK Kuala Lumpur. By the end of the talk, Cikgu Ann (the counsellor) held a Q&A session with the kids. 

 

Friday - 23rd June 2023 

So we were just done with the Majlis Perlantikan Pengawas Sekolah yesterday,  right? I was shocked by another news  right after I stepped into the staff room today. They actually planned on organising another ceremony to celebrate the class monitors next week...and we just found out about it today?

"Majlis Watikah Perlantikan Ketua Kelas dan Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya" is happening next week, and today is the rehearsal? Whoah, give me a break!!

I had a reading comprehension activity with 1 Ruby today. Since their UP1 results were flopping, I think it is very important to make them understand on how to actually answer the questions using every grammar knowledge we have learnt so far. And so I printed a giant text and pasted it on the whiteboard. 

Nevertheless, it was just another normal Friday for me (except someone spilled some paints in front of the staff room). Let's see what Week 7 holds for me!!

Week 5 - Into my second month of teaching...

 Monday- 12th June 2023 

Welcome to another week of my practicum journey! On the first day of Week 5, I had plenty of time in the staff room before my classes, the three last periods of the day started. Therefore, right after the assembly I went straight to my cubicle and started to revise a few things related to Mathematics. I also printed some handouts I was going to use with 1 Ruby (ENG) and 1 Intan (MT). It has been so easy using my own printer next to me, less work, good printing quality and  most importantly, no queuing!

We also had rehearsal for the farewell party we are throwing for our principal, Umi Rozita. This Friday is going to be her last day in the school and it was kind of sad to let her go as she was very friendly and easy going. Other than that, I spent the remaining time with my relief classes with 2 Intan and 2 Kristal, as well as marking the books that have been piling up on my table since last week! 🤭

Tuesday - 13th June 2023

I did a very interesting activity with 1 Ruby today. I taught them how to write a postcard and they seemed to enjoy decorating their postcards so much. What made the postcard looked even more real is the fake stamps I printed out. I had a lot of fun explaining the format and the purpose of one's sending a postcard. This is very cheesy and expected but yes, most kids wrote the postcards to the one they like. Euu, so predictable! (I am not judging but yes, I am but who likes their own classmates??!)

Wednesday - 14th June 2023

We received an official memo from the KPM earlier today to start the CoCu activities as usual starting from  Wednesday next week. What a day to start with! Aziah, Ummu and I were all asssigned into different clubs and organisations (We still do not have the names yet but that's the slightest info I could gather at the moment 🤓).

My classes with 1 Topez went a bit downhill today. It wasn't that bad but I wished they'd learnt from the mistakes they made today and changed. I am a pretty much cool teacher most of the time but I do not condone such rude behaviour in my class. They asked for my forgiveness before i stepped outside and promised to not repeat whatever they did today.

I also had my Maths class with 1 Intan before Asr prayer. The kids seemed to confused the fractions so I had to draw the shape (the basic illustrations of a fraction) on the whiteboard. After that, I was asked by Cikgu Shazila to come to the netball selection at the court. It was our first selection of the year, hence, a lot of students came to try their luck.

Thursday - 15th June 2023

We had to come as early as possible (10 a.m.) to celebrate our principal. It was a farewell party I've talked about in the previous entry. The event was glamorous and heart-warming. The teachers celebrated Umi Rozita's service in the school for 4 years in SEPERMAI. Aside from the speeches delivered by the GPKs, there were also a montage video-play and a photo session with all the teachers and students.

I spent the rest of the day with several relief classes and prepared my lesson with 1 Intan. I was going to finish the chapter 2 by the end of the week. They lost the handouts i gave previously for holidays. *sigh*

Friday -  16th June 2023

It was a normal Friday for me. I didn't have any relief classes for the day and spent most of my free time revising Mathematics with Aziah.

Later in the evening, I taught 1 Topez to write their own postcards. It was the same lesson as I did with 1 Ruby previously. The kids had a lot of fun writing it and some even got way too excited picking up the best colour paper to write on! 

As for my one period lesson with 1 Ruby, I taught them grammar (BECAUSE/SO). I was a little bit irritated with some of them because of their lack of manners, especially those so called 'athletes'. The had been sleeping in my class and whenever I tried waking them up, they just ignored me. 🤨

We were given a bundle of papers to organise and arrange accordingly to the classes we teach. I took a bundle each for both 1 Ruby and 1 Topez, and another set of Mathematics paper for 1 Intan. I used the time I had in the staff room stapling the bundle and printed some ABM (Alat Bantu Mengajar) that were going to be use for my lesson later that evening with 1 Ruby.

Since I didnt have any relief class for the day, I used my leisure time devouring the book I  brought from home. Though I felt a little bad doing it, I admit, it made me feel a little relieve from the stress

Wednesday - 7th June 2023

I planned on doing a reading activity with 1 Topaz today. I used a reading material from PULSE 2  Workbook that I bought on the previous weekend and started printing them out. I wanted to use the projector at Bilik Sangar (the theatre room located next to the library) but I will need to get through a lot of hassles in order to get my name listed on the waiting list soooo... nah. Let's just save the all trouble and choose PEACE. 

Since i already remember all the names of 1 Topez, I randomly called out their names and assigned them to read certain paragraphs. 

They were kind of shy when asked to speak out loud. I encouraged them to read and assured them that it is okay for them to make mistakes for the first time and that they could learn from it and improve the next time.

Thursday - 8th June 2023

Teaching 1 Intan kids Mathematics is very tough, I must say. Their attendances are usually very inconsistent and today, only 8 people came to the school. It is kind of hard to keep up with the other classes' syllabus as I kept on repeating the same topic for three weeks in a row. Did I ever tell you there are only 14 of them? 😬 Life is tough but the show must go on, so I taught the remaining kids Pecahan Positif dan Negatif Dalam Integer.

During my class with 1 Topez earlier that day, I introduced them to Modal Verbs. Since it was only a period, the kids were able to complete the worksheet I gave them. Though the kids were so louddddddd and energetic, they were so attentive and quick in responding to my questions. I also asked for their holiday handouts too but some of them didn't complete it yet.

Friday -  9th June 2023

We've reached the end of the week.

Since the schedule of  Ujian Penilaian 1 (UP1) is flexible (depending on whenever the teacher feels like doing it), I decided to let both 1 Ruby and 1 Topez sit for the test today. Of course, I've notified them two weeks earlier even before the holiday started. However, the kids seemed to take the exam lightly which was very disappointing. Some were talking and made jokes. 

It was a very tiring day. I am only surviving for the weekend to come!
